![]() I used to read every book to the end when I started reading, but the last couple of years I´ve luckily gathered the strength to stop if I really dislike it. ![]() I´m probably not the only one here who go on a buying-spree of five books, meaning to read them all, only to lose interest in four of them when suddenly something new and more exciting shows up. I also included a list of all the books I bought that I´ve yet to read. Where I felt the quality sort of stayed the same throughout all the books, I gave them a collected rating, but some series had such a dip in quality (please comment if you agree) that I had no choice but to rate them individually. There are also quite a couple of book series in here. I also added text instead of a score, but you´ll figure it out. When designing the rating system I thought a good 1 to 10 would suffice, but to make the distinction between the really good books, and those that almost make it to the perfect ten, I added a sort of 9.5 rating. Making these list of personalised recommendations would be a way to somehow share my love for reading with others looking for the "next great read". Reading is something most of us (I hope) do for fun, and ourself only. While I was pounding away all the titles to my PC, I had memories of getting up hours before my ex-girlfriend would wake up, to read The Complete Collection of Calvin & Hobbes six years ago, being at a Hostel Bar in Europe reading Joyland by Stephen King, and how similar the first book that started my reading (No Country for old Men) was to the movie that had just come out. Two weeks ago I had an idea that it would be fun to go through all the books on my shelf (Dad´s basement), to see if I had forgotten them all, or if any of them would bring back memories. We can't like the same things and everyone are entitled to their own opinion, as long as they respect those who don't necessarily agree with them. If you disliked this book, it's totally fine. This book made me do some research about plenty of the information that it contains and I must admit that I appreciate Dan Brown's research on historical facts and information. On the other hand, the plot, the symbolisms, the riddles and the historical information really intrigues me. I don't feel connected to the characters and I find them kinda dull at times, but they are not bad either. ![]() However, it doesn't make me feel bored or uninterested (quite the opposite) and I like the descriptions of the buildings or the events. I admit that the writing is not that special. Nevertheless, I started it and now that I am halfway through it, I must say that I don't find it bad and I actually like it. I read some reviews about it and when I saw that many people strongly disliked it and found it bad, I was afraid that I would feel the same. I was aware that what I was going to read is one of the most controversial books around there. ![]() I never really cared about it, since I assumed that it wouldn't interest me, but yesterday I decided to start reading it. My father had been recommending “The Da Vinci code” for years. And as I said, some answers are still coming (and I might pop in and write out a few others that I didn't get to.) They might flow better if you watch them be spoken. I hope you can make sense of the sometimes rambling answers I give.
